All movement can be done suspended in shallow water or taken to the deep end if the client has developed safe water skills. Exercises cover all components of fitness and show how to train the client to handle buoyancy, using instructor assistance at first, then, working solo as they feel comfortable. The client can be trained to use the resistance of water to assist travel as well as increasing resistance to add strengthening progressions as their condition improves. The goal is to provide balanced exercise that will provide benefits for their safe return to land.
- Equipment Toolbox DVD091 part 6 (23 minutes)
There is a wide variety of equipment available for pool use, some floats while others sink. Which will be safe and effective to help your client? Take a look at the differences between buoyant and resistive equipment and the requirements for the many general post rehabilitation conditions that may come to your pool. Each exercise must be specific to the condition and be both safe and effective. See suggestions for targeting the same exercise with different pieces of equipment to help with choice.
