The goal of the WaterART Certification programs is to provide the highest standard of theoretical, practical and leadership skills to become an excellent Instructor, Trainer, Specialist or Fitness Consultant. Certification Programs are divided into 2 categories:
1) Comprehensive Certification
2) Specialty Certification
Comprehensive Examination Certification requires that each candidate complete both a theory exam and a practical assessment to become fully Certified.
Specialty Examination Certification requires that candidates who are currently WaterART Certified, only need to complete the theory component of the exam process to renew and achieve another level of qualification. Any NEW new or Expired qualifications candidate will be required to complete BOTH the theory and practical assessment to become fully Certified. Note that if an Instructor is only Water Certified and wish to become Land Certified - they will be required to do complete a Land Practical Assessment. The same applies to Land Certified Instructors if they wish to become Water Certified will have to complete both parts of the exam process.
If a candidate has multiple Certifications, all Certifications will have the same common renewal date (which is two years from the passing date of the newest exam). When successfully completing another level of Certification before the candidates expiration date, there will be no fee will be required and candidates will automatically be issued electronic Certification Diplomas from the passing date. If hard copies of the Certification Diploma are required (shipped) candidates will be charged shipping fees. See options.
All candidates will need to maintain their own Emergency Safety Qualifications such as either a CURRENT Life-guard Qualification OR a valid CPR/FIRST AID/AED. This is written on the Certification Diploma that the qualification is only valid when Emergency Safety Qualifications are current (as dates typically do not coincide with your WaterART Certification).
Comprehensive Certification Programs that require both theory & practical assessment to complete examination process are:
Candidates who will require Practical Assessments
Anyone new to WaterART Fitness
Anyone without a Comprehensive Certification (completing a Specialty Certification)
Your first Land Fitness Certification with WaterART
Your first Water Fitness Certification with WaterART
Additionally, anyone may request a practical assessment for any level of qualification that they feel they would be better served to have their practical skills reviewed
Speciality Certification Programs (require only a theory examination if your WaterART Certification is currently valid. Completing another level of Certification automatically upgrades your existing qualifications as well as gives you more qualifications for 2 years from passing date. )
Additionally, all candidates will need to maintain their own Emergency Safety Qualifications such as either a current Life-guard Qualification OR basic CPR/First Aid/AED prior to becoming full qualified and certified to meet industry standards. Please note that some employers may require more advanced emergency safety qualifications so we recommend that you check with your employer prior taking your emergency safety qualifications. Each organization for emergency safety has unique standards. Candidates are required to keep their own emergency safety qualifications up to date. Each Certification Diploma has this stated on the diploma that emergency safety must be valid for full Certification and Qualifications. Please email us any questions.

How to Complete the Theory Exam Process:
All Theory Examinations may be done via online open book, applied theory examination. Instructors should dedicate 2 hours to complete this examination process. You may pre-plan your lesson plan valued at 25 marks prior to receiving the link. Marking templates are in the manual or we may email you these upon request. We do not allow shared answers. We email you a link when you are ready to submit both theory & practical assessment within 6 months of training or sooner.
How to Complete the Practical Assessment:
The practical assessments may be completed via an onsite assessment with a Certified WaterART Master Trainer OR we may email you a link to upload your video presentation via a MOV or MP4 file format. You may upload several files; however, you will need to label them in a proper order so we may easily follow your prepared lesson plan. Lesson plans should also be uploaded in case program differs from the theory version or another Master Trainer marks the exam separate to the theory. You may film the program in your home (as if you are teaching a group). We recommend keeping your filming simple, with just yourself and/or pretending to be teaching a group perhaps one other family person or friend. The goal is to mark the instructor, so we need to be able to see, hear and understand your exercise goals and coaching tips. There is a detailed marking system and exam study guide questions and answer in the manual so please review this prior to submission. Please note we do not accept drop box via other video streaming downloads because of viruses and liability issues.
All Exams are required to be completed within 6 months from training or sooner. Should you not have access to a computer you may mail in a different exam.
Exams submitted after deadline, will be subject to a $35.00 late fee for each exam the theory or practical assessment. Please note that we do not accept exam submissions after 1 year from the training or purchase date - you must redo the program or partake in another workshop training. To fast track the examination process, we recommend that you order and review your course materials prior to the course. We do have video streaming for all programs if you are unable to view a DVD. There are limited views for this request. Sharing of exams and materials is strictly prohibited for both liability and copyright reasons.
The Onsite Practical Assessment involves with Certified Master Trainer: teaching other instructors who attend the assessment session or the Master Trainer if this is an individual assessment. When there are several people in a group- the group acts as the class for the person being assessed (as they can learn from each others performances). The goal is to assess how each instructor completes the competencies required for the practical (see below). Each Instructor planning on-site assessment must attend the pre-arranged group session or work with the MT at a convenient time & location, once you are scheduled to do so. If you cannot attend you MUST give 24 hours notice and re-schedule.
Each Candidate will put together a 30 minute abbreviated class ( with or without music) The session may be demonstrated either on land (chair or standing) or for Water Programming (as if you are teaching on deck OR in the water). Be sure to have your lesson plan written out so assessor may follow your program. You may utilize equipment; however you will be graded on safety and efficacy of theis equipment. .
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to teach and safely demonstrate the level they are testing. The 30 minute lesson plan should include:
a) teaching a 5-10 minute warm up (be sure to introduce yourself and include safety and orientation information)
b) teaching a 3-5 minute Cardiovascular segment (intensity depends upon program). Be sure to monitor and regulate intensity to safely provide modifications and progressions.
c) teaching two 3-5 minute Muscular Strength /functional fitness segments or sets (be sure to perform enough sets & repetitions)
d) teach a 5-10 minute Warm Down/Cool Down to help with relaxation and stretching of the tight musculature. Add proper closure to the program.
You are evaluated based on:
1) Do you understand the exercise objective?
2) Can we see, hear and understand your coaching and teaching tips ?
3) Is the exercise safe and effective? ( we do deduct 5 marks for any dangerous exercises)
4) Are the client(s) enjoying the program? Did you show how to modify and/or progress the exercises?
Please note that your marking templates are always in the manual. Please review prior to taking the practical assessment.
