This Aquatic Post Rehabilitation Instructor for General Populations Certification Program is designed to
give a comprehensive overview of exercises suitable for a general
population recovering from injury, post replacement surgery, and other
debilitating conditions that prevent them from enjoying full mobility
with daily living. In other words, this program is for less fit
population or older adults. The learning objective is to
understand anatomy, safe joint range, muscle action and overall fitness
levels requirements to be able to design and oversee safe exercise
programs that will help each person return, as close as possible to, or
improve upon, their previous levels of mobility. The goal is to provide
overall mobility for recovery. Therefore the regions of focus will
cover suggested exercises for : the cervical,
thoracic and lumbar areas of the spine, and the shoulder, hip , knee and
ankle joint areas. These exercises will provide the Instructor with a
generic base of safe, adaptable movement that can be combined to create
programs suitable to each client's personal needs. Some people with a
chronic condition may never advance beyond a certain stage for recovery –
however this does not mean they have not improved their quality of
life. We train to work on each person's ability not disability.

Please note that this is
not an anatomy class. The class is about teaching "simply" what the
disorder is HOW that disorder effects the muscles in terms of muscle
balance. You will learn what rehabilitation exercises you do for that
disorder and how to progress those exercises. In other words, this is a
practical application of rehab exercises.
How
to Complete the Practical Exam Process:The
practical assessments must be completed via a mailed submission
via DVD/USB stick of 1 week of any of the case study program cards (as
written out for the case study). We highly recommend that you keep the
filming of the program simple with yourself in a pool or with someone
who is currently NOT your rehabilitation client. Ideally we would like
to see how you move and progress the exercises in the water -so that you
optimize the properties of water and protection of water. Ideally, you
will be in the water with the "client". Please film the program in a
home POOL or at a center when it is quiet. To mark your practical
assessment, we need to be able to see, hear and understand your exercise
goals and objectives so that we may review your technique for safety,
efficacy and purpose. Also, the session should follow along what you
have written out. Please note: for liability and virus reasons, WaterART
Fitness cannot download video streaming files from YouTube or Private
Google accounts. You will have to mail the hard copy of the practical
assessment and verify that you are indeed the person on the video. We
recommend rendering the video in VLC format and submitting via a USB
STICK. Should you want the USB stick returned please mail a self
addressed envelope to us. Additionally, mail the stick in an envelope
that cannot easily be ripped open by machinable mail. Sharing exams and
materials is strictly prohibited for both liability and copyright
reasons.
Scope of Practice: Professionals
are required to promote and keep up to their provincial /state
standards. Only Registered Therapists may promote that they are a
therapist or facilitating aquatic therapy. Non registered professionals
may work with Post Rehabilitation clientele or when the client has been
released by medical provider. WaterART will issue POST Rehabilitation
Specialist Certifications Diplomas to Non Allied Health Care Providers
or Non Registered Professionals. Candidates who possess officially
registered allied health care provider outside of WaterART training will
be issued Rehabilitation Specialist Qualifications.
