My Passion in Fitness
I was born a teacher. Helping others learn brings great joy and satisfaction to my life! Getting into the teaching profession was made possible by learning French.
Spending a year in France while working on my Masters in French literature will be one of the many highlights of my life.
As I was approaching the time to retire, I started wondering what the next phase of life would hold for me.
Fitness was important to me especially as I try to age gracefully. Water has always been my passion.
While I was taking an aqua fitness class designed for athletes that was taught by Master Trainer, Clare Gorman, she encouraged to take the Instructor Certification through WaterART.
At the time, I was also working on the Fitness Leadership Certificate through Seneca.
An assignment in my last course entitled (the Business of) Personal Training helped clarify what I wanted to do in the fitness industry
(i.e. work in the water).
It also led me to explore the possibility of working as an aquatic personal trainer for the City of Vaughan.
The idea of becoming an aquatic personal trainer prompted me to select additional WaterART Certifications that would provide an excellent foundation for future clients.
As a former instructor for the Vaughan Running Room, I recognized the importance on cross-training for athletes.
I started teaching Clare’s H2O Boot Camp and promoted it to former clinic participants from the Running Room as a way to work on their sports conditioning and hopefully stay injury free.
It is very satisfying hearing about their running accomplishments and knowing exercising in the water helped contribute to their success!
Mantras have helped me achieve seemingly impossible dreams, like running a half-marathon.
The following one by Zig Ziglar really resonants with me as I chose a one additional goal for retirement, becoming a Master Trainer for WaterART:
"What you get by reaching your destination is not nearly as important as what you will become by reaching your destination."
Let the journey begin!!
